Scripture – “While Jesus was having dinner at Matthew’s house, many tax collectors and sinners came and ate with him and his disciples. When the Pharisees saw this, they asked his disciples, “Why does your teacher eat with tax collectors and sinners?” On hearing this, Jesus said, “It is not the healthy who need a doctor, but the sick. But go and learn what this means: ‘I desire mercy, not sacrifice.’ For I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners.””

‭‭Matthew‬ ‭9‬:‭10‬-‭13‬ ‭NIV‬‬

Observation – Matthew got saved and had a dinner party where many tax collectors and sinners came and ate with Jesus and his disciples. The Pharisees asked why he was hanging around these people and Jesus said it is not the healthy who need a doctor but the sick.

Application – The further a person moves away from their date of salvation the fewer lost people they know. This is either due to all of their friends, family, neighbors and coworkers becoming Christians or they start spending time with Christians and have very few lost people in their lives. It is normally the latter. Jesus called us to go and make disciples not go and live in a comfortable safe Christian bubble. If you don’t have any lost friends invite someone at work to go to lunch with you or have your neighbors over for dinner. If you don’t want someone at your dinner table they will have a hard time believing you want them in heaven.

Prayer – Lord Jesus, I pray for all believers that they would remember their day of salvation and how a Christian friend was willing to spend time with them, a lost person, so they could hear the truth about God’s love for them and then they would go and do the same. Amen.
