Scripture – “Don’t you know that when you offer yourselves to someone as obedient slaves, you are slaves of the one you obey—whether you are slaves to sin, which leads to death, or to obedience, which leads to righteousness?”

‭‭Romans‬ ‭6‬:‭16‬ ‭NIV‬‬

Observation – Paul is saying that we are all slaves, either we are slaves to sin or we are slaves of righteousness. You are a slave to whatever compels you to do something, to the point that it requires more effort not to do it than to do it.

Application – If not drinking alcohol requires a large measure of discipline you are a slave to alcohol. If you truly desire to tell others about Jesus and help your neighbors you are a slave to righteousness. We want Jesus to change us so much that our desire is to be his obedient servant and when we fulfill his commands it brings us joy. The things that Jesus hates we also should hate because it brings death.

Prayer – Lord, I pray you give us hearts that desire good and despise evil. Amen.
