Scripture – “Therefore no one will be declared righteous in his sight by observing the law; rather, through the law we become conscious of sin.”
Romans 3:20 NIV
Observation – No one is declared righteous by God because they live a good life. When a person honestly compares their life to the Ten Commandments what they discover is they have fallen short of what God expects from us and then that person becomes fully aware of their sin and how often they break God’s commandments.
Application – Most people view themselves as good and if they died today they would go to heaven because they have lived a good life. When a person is asked if they have ever lied, stolen anything, taken the Lord’s name in vain or looked at another person with lust they find out very quickly that they are lying, thieving, blaspheming adulterers. This is why no one will be declared righteous by observing the law because no one has ever fully observed the law perfectly except Jesus. This is why Jesus’ death is so important. Jesus died on the cross to pay for your sins because we fall short of God’s expectations for us. If we accept Jesus as our Lord and Savior God looks at us a fully righteous in his sight, not because of what we do but because or our relationship with Jesus.
Prayer – Lord, thank you that we can be accepted by you through Jesus. Amen.
