Scripture – “At the end of your life you will groan, when your flesh and body are spent. You will say, “How I hated discipline! How my heart spurned correction! I would not obey my teachers or turn my ear to my instructors. And I was soon in serious trouble in the assembly of God’s people.” For your ways are in full view of the Lord, and he examines all your paths. The evil deeds of the wicked ensnare them; the cords of their sins hold them fast. For lack of discipline they will die, led astray by their own great folly.”

‭‭Proverbs‬ ‭5‬:‭11‬-‭14‬, ‭21‬-‭23‬ ‭NIV‬‬

Observation – When people are old and their bodies are weak and feeble they will reflect on their lives with deep sorrow and regret. They will think about the times when they chose to enjoy sin for a time and rejected discipline and correction which would have given them a good life. A long time ago they became slaves to sin and were unable to get free. Their lack of discipline led them down a path of poor choices that ends in death.

Application – Everyone living on this planet is either a slave to sin or a slave of righteousness through our relationship with Jesus. If you are slave to sin you will suffer a similar fate as described above. If you are slave of Christ you will learn when he disciplines and corrects you and will look back on your life, when your flesh and body are spent, and rejoice that he saved you, set your feet on a rock and gave you a firm place to stand during your time on this earth.

Prayer – Lord, I pray for those you are led astray by their own great folly that they cry out to you for help and ask you to forgive them. Amen.
