Scripture – ““I have much more to say to you, more than you can now bear. But when he, the Spirit of truth, comes, he will guide you into all the truth. He will not speak on his own; he will speak only what he hears, and he will tell you what is yet to come. He will glorify me because it is from me that he will receive what he will make known to you. All that belongs to the Father is mine. That is why I said the Spirit will receive from me what he will make known to you.””
John 16:12-15 NIV
Observation – Jesus has told his disciples that he will be going to the Father soon. Earlier in Chapter 16 Jesus says it is good that he going away because when he goes he will send the Holy Spirit to the disciples. The Holy Spirit will make known to Jesus’ disciples everything that is to come and will reveal to them what Jesus wants them to know.
Application – As believers we need to rely on the Holy Spirit to guide us and teach us so we know how to live a life marked by wisdom. If we are not relying on the Holy Spirit we are depending on ourselves and others. Human wisdom is flawed because it is limited in knowledge and is viewing life from a worldly perspective versus an eternal perspective. Most of us would agree that when we earn money we should allocate a portion of it towards saving and investing. That is a long term prudent approach. A child would spend it all on food, entertainment and toys because they are immature and don’t understand that there is life beyond today. Adults are like children when it comes to life beyond this realm. They are only focused on the material world and not the spiritual world. The Holy Spirit helps us view our lives from an eternal perspective so we make decisions that serve us and others well today and after we die.
Prayer – Holy Spirit please fill every believer today with the wisdom, understanding and knowledge they need to live a life that pleases you.
