Scripture – “My command is this: Love each other as I have loved you. Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends. This is my command: Love each other.”

‭‭John‬ ‭15‬:‭12‬-‭13‬, ‭17‬ ‭NIV‬‬

Observation – In John 15:12, John 15:13 and John 15:17 Jesus is commanding his disciples to love one another as he has loved them.

Application – What is the difference in loving people and loving people the way the Jesus does? We love with biases and cherished outcomes in mind. Our hope in how people will treat us and react to us influences if we speak the truth and do what is best for the other person or do and say what is best for us. Jesus knows what is best for us and loves us with that it mind. He allows us to be disappointed and go through difficult times in order for us to become the people he wants us to be versus us being “happy” in the moment. Jesus also loves us when we are unlovable. He forgives and forgets. People have a difficult time doing that, we may forgive but we never forget, which impacts true love for others. The only way to love like Jesus is to lay down your life for others, with the full understanding that true love is costly.

Prayer – Jesus, I pray that we remain in you so we can love like you love. Amen.
