Scripture – “Those who give to the poor will lack nothing, but those who close their eyes to them receive many curses.”
Proverbs 28:27 NIV
Observation – If you give to the poor God will bless you, if you don’t you will receive many curses.
Application – Help the poor. It takes discernment to do this because there is a person on nearly every street corner begging for money. How do you know if they are poor or lazy? In every city there are great Christian organizations that know how to care for the poor. They are skilled in education, job training, ministering and dealing with addiction. You can always give to them. Additionally, you will hear about people that need your help. Don’t close your eyes to the poor. God has blessed you so you can be a blessing, not so you can have everything you want and have nothing left for people less fortunate.
Prayer – Lord, I’ve heard that evangelicals only give 2% of their income. I pray that you convict their hearts so they give more. Amen.
