Scripture – “Though you grind a fool in a mortar, grinding them like grain with a pestle, you will not remove their folly from them.”
Proverbs 27:22 NIV
Observation – There are two categories of fools. One is foolish due to upbringing, ignorance and lack of experience. We are all like this at one time and through humility, guidance and instruction we can become wise. Proverbs 27:22 is not talking about that type of fool. The fool described in this verse is arrogant, proud and convinced that they are always right. No matter what type of pain and consequences they endure, due to how they treat others, they will never learn, they remain fools to the end.
Application – God calls us to invest time with and guide the first type of fool, the Bible often times refers to these people as simple. God calls us to stay away from the second type of fool because “Stone is heavy and sand a burden, but a fool’s provocation is heavier than both.”
Proverbs 27:3 NIV. Spending time with this person is going to bring you grief and frustration. There are billions of people on the earth, go find someone to invest in that won’t trample you when you offer them the word of God.
Prayer – Lord, I pray for discernment for my brothers and sisters that they would’t spend the precious time you have give us on this earth grinding a fool in a mortar. Amen.
