Scripture – “and she said to him, “Pardon me, my Lord. As surely as you live, I am the woman who stood here beside you praying to the Lord. I prayed for this child, and the Lord has granted me what I asked of him. So now I give him to the Lord. For his whole life he will be given over to the Lord.” And he worshiped the Lord there.”
1 Samuel 1:26-28 NIV
Observation – 3,000 years ago a woman named Hannah couldn’t have a baby and she prayed to God that if he were to bless her with a son she would give the boy back to God to serve God his entire life. God answered her prayer and she kept her promise.
Application – The Bible says, “keep your oaths even when it hurts”. One of the character traits of a person who has been transformed by Jesus is integrity. They do what they say they will do, not only with vows made to God but with their family, friends, neighbors, co-workers and customers. If you have made a promise be sure to keep it and be careful not to commit to do something that you do not intend to carry out.
Prayer – Lord, you are holy and have called your followers to be holy in all that they do. I pray that every believer would be honest and fulfill their promises so that you get honor among the lost of the world. Amen.
