Scripture – “An unfriendly person pursues selfish ends and against all sound judgment starts quarrels. Fools find no pleasure in understanding but delight in airing their own opinions. To answer before listening— that is folly and shame.”

‭‭Proverbs‬ ‭18‬:‭1‬-‭2‬, ‭13‬ ‭NIV‬‬

Observation – The three verses above from Proverbs 18 describe a fool. They are selfish and love to argue. They don’t care what others have to say and they only get pleasure from hearing themselves talk and they answer before listening demonstrating how disrespectful they are of others.

Application – We are called by Jesus to love people and we are instructed by Jesus to have discernment in who we spend time with and the conversations we have with people. The Bible says not to throw our pearls before swine. These are the types of people God is talking about. There are hundreds of people we know that we can serve and invest time with that will benefit from God’s wisdom. Don’t spend time with fools for you will not find wisdom on their lips.

Prayer – Lord give us wisdom in how we invest our time and energy and discernment to know when we are having a debate versus engaging in a fruitless argument. Amen.
