Scripture – “Stay away from a fool, for you will not find knowledge on their lips.”
Proverbs 14:7 NIV
Observation – God warns us to stay away for a fool because the words they say bring you harm not good. When God speaks of a fool he is not talking about someone that lacks worldly knowledge he talking about someone that mocks God. Below is are five additional verses from Proverbs 14 that describe the characteristics of the type of person God is instructing us to avoid. “A fool’s mouth lashes out with pride, but the lips of the wise protect them. Fools mock at making amends for sin, but goodwill is found among the upright. The wise fear the Lord and shun evil, but a fool is hotheaded and yet feels secure. The wealth of the wise is their crown, but the folly of fools yields folly. Whoever is patient has great understanding, but one who is quick-tempered displays folly.”
Proverbs 14:3, 9, 16, 24, 29 NIV
Application – Jesus said that he came to seek and save the lost and we too have the privilege of sharing the good news with others. There is a time to stay away from a person because they bring you harm and not good and your time is better spent on someone that has an interest in healthy discussions verses arguing and mocking.
Prayer – Lord give us wisdom to know the difference between someone who is genuinely interested in knowing the truth and a person who mocks you and those who love you.
