Scripture – “Then Peter, filled with the Holy Spirit, said to them: “Rulers and elders of the people! If we are being called to account today for an act of kindness shown to a man who was lame and are being asked how he was healed, then know this, you and all the people of Israel: It is by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom you crucified but whom God raised from the dead, that this man stands before you healed. Jesus is “ ‘the stone you builders rejected, which has become the cornerstone.’ Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to mankind by which we must be saved.””
Acts 4:8-12 NIV
Observation – In response to the leaders asking Peter and John how the crippled man was healed Peter tells them it was Jesus who healed the man, not them, and proclaims that “Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to mankind by which we must be saved.”
Application – In discussions with people about spiritual things a frequent statement is made which is, “all religions basically teach the same thing”. When a Christian explains that, while there are similarities, the differences are what really matter, and go on to share what Peter proclaimed, “Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to mankind by which we must be saved.” People are usually offended by this and say, “so you believe that if someone doesn’t accept Jesus as their savior they are going to hell” We don’t determine truth, we discover it. God tells throughout the Bible that Jesus is the way, the truth and the life, no one comes to God except through Jesus. If you think you are a Christian and think that there a many ways to God you are in a position of disagreeing with God.
Prayer – Lord, I pray that all believers would be as bold and Peter and John and proclaim that, “Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to mankind by which we must be saved.” Only when people hear the truth can the truth set them free. Amen.
