Scripture – “Jesus said to them, “If God were your Father, you would love me, for I have come here from God. I have not come on my own; God sent me. Why is my language not clear to you? Because you are unable to hear what I say. You belong to your father, the devil, and you want to carry out your father’s desires. He was a murderer from the beginning, not holding to the truth, for there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks his native language, for he is a liar and the father of lies. Yet because I tell the truth, you do not believe me! Can any of you prove me guilty of sin? If I am telling the truth, why don’t you believe me? Whoever belongs to God hears what God says. The reason you do not hear is that you do not belong to God.””
John 8:42-47 NIV
Observation – Jesus is making a lot of claims in these six verses. He is telling the Jews that if God was their father they would love him because he was sent by God. He is telling them, because they refuse to believe that their father is the devil and the reason they do not hear and understand is because they don’t belong to God.
Application – These verses apply to you and me as much as they applied to the Jews 2,000 years ago. As Bob Dylan wrote You may be an ambassador to England or France
You may like to gamble, you might like to dance

You might be a socialite with a long string of pearls
But you’re gonna have to serve somebody, yes indeed

You might have drugs at your command, women in a cage
You may be a businessman or some high-degree thief
They may call you doctor or they may call you chief
But you’re gonna have to serve somebody, yes, you are

Prayer – Lord, there is no spiritual Switzerland People are either serving you or the devil. Is someone is not for you they are against you. I pray that people would see that and choose you.
