Scripture – ““Will the Lord reject forever? Will he never show his favor again? Has his unfailing love vanished forever? Has his promise failed for all time? Has God forgotten to be merciful? Has he in anger withheld his compassion?” Then I thought, “To this I will appeal: the years when the Most High stretched out his right hand. I will remember the deeds of the Lord; yes, I will remember your miracles of long ago. I will consider all your works and meditate on all your mighty deeds.””
Psalms 77:7-12 NIV
Observation – The writer feels like God if far off and doesn’t care about his life anymore. This is how feels so he engages his mind and makes a decision to remember God’s faithfulness from years past and all the wonderful things God did prior to the difficulties he is experiencing.
Application – Jesus tells us to “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.” When our circumstances look bleak and we feel like God is not listening and has forgotten about us it is critical to challenge our feelings with our minds. We need to declare what we know to be true. God will never leave us or forsake us. We need to remember how good he has been in the past and consider all of his works and meditate on his mighty deeds.
Prayer – Lord, when we allow our feelings to determine our state of mind we can head in a bad direction. During these times help us to focus on the facts and our faith as an anchor during difficulties.
