Scripture – “On the last and greatest day of the festival, Jesus stood and said in a loud voice, “Let anyone who is thirsty come to me and drink. Whoever believes in me, as Scripture has said, rivers of living water will flow from within them.” By this he meant the Spirit, whom those who believed in him were later to receive. Up to that time the Spirit had not been given, since Jesus had not yet been glorified.”
John 7:37-39 NIV
Observation – Jesus stands up in front of lots of people and says, “Let anyone who is thirsty come to me and drink. Whoever believes in me, as Scripture has said, rivers of living water will flow from within them.” Who speaks like this? If you were at a party and a friend of your stood up and said this you would think he was mentally compromised.
Application – We are left to answer the question, “Is Jesus Lord, liar or lunatic?” Does a liar lay down his life for those he loves? Liars lie to benefit themselves. Does a lunatic spend his days teaching, serving and caring for people? The biggest question each person must ask themselves and answer is, “Who is Jesus?” Jesus claims that if you believe in him rivers of living water will flow from within them.
Prayer – Lord, I pray that people would honestly approach this question with the intent of discovering the truth so that they can experience peace today and hope for tomorrow.
