Scripture – “Then Jesus declared, “I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to me will never go hungry, and whoever believes in me will never be thirsty. But as I told you, you have seen me and still you do not believe. All those the Father gives me will come to me, and whoever comes to me I will never drive away. For I have come down from heaven not to do my will but to do the will of him who sent me. And this is the will of him who sent me, that I shall lose none of all those he has given me, but raise them up at the last day. For my Father’s will is that everyone who looks to the Son and believes in him shall have eternal life, and I will raise them up at the last day.””
John 6:35-40 NIV
Observation – Jesus makes this bold claim that he is the one that sustains all human life and whoever believes in him will be raised up on the last day (Jesus will bring the dead back to life on judgement day) and those who believe in him will have eternal life. “Whoever believes in the Son has eternal life, but whoever rejects the Son will not see life, for God’s wrath remains on them.” John 3:36 NIV
Application – Recently I’ve have had conversations with two men in their mid seventies. One is depressed about aging because he is forgetful and his body isn’t as strong as it used to be, the other is investing his wealth trying to discover the secret to longevity so he can live another 25 years. I’ve shared with both of them that they can experience strong healthy bodies for eternity if they confess their sins and trust in Jesus. Both of them responded with “I don’t know, I don’t know about that.” I gave a Bible to one of them yesterday and shared with him that even though he doesn’t “know” right now it is his responsibility to research the truth. I’ll do the same with the other man in the next couple of weeks. If you haven’t read the Bible and explored the bold claims that Jesus makes about himself you will still be judged because you should have looked into it. You didn’t choose the day of your birth and you won’t choose the day of your death. You can choose whether or not you will spend eternity with Jesus in heaven or be separated from him in hell for all eternity.
Prayer – Lord, I pray for all of the people out there that claim “they don’t know” yet have never taken the time to ask you to reveal yourself and haven’t never read your word. I pray that you inspire them to open the Bible and see that you are the way, the truth and the life. Amen.
