Scripture – “Jesus replied, “Very truly I tell you, no one can see the kingdom of God unless they are born again.” You should not be surprised at my saying, ‘You must be born again.’ Just as Moses lifted up the snake in the wilderness, so the Son of Man must be lifted up, that everyone who believes may have eternal life in him.” For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because they have not believed in the name of God’s one and only Son. Whoever believes in the Son has eternal life, but whoever rejects the Son will not see life, for God’s wrath remains on them.”
John 3:3, 7, 14-16, 18, 36 NIV
Observation – All of these verses from John Chapter 3 state that eternal life is based on belief in Jesus. If a person does not believe and rejects Jesus they won’t go to heaven.
Application – If these verses are hard for you to accept take time to meet with a friend of yours that believes they are true and who lives a life that has been changed through a relationship with Jesus. This investment of time is worth it to truly understand what God is telling us through scripture. Most people scoff and repeat objections to Jesus based on what they have heard other people say but they are unable to accurately convey what they believe and why. Don’t be lazy and don’t be a fool, look into it yourself.
Prayer – Lord, they are so many distractions to keep people occupied so they don’t read the Bible and invest in eternal life. I pray that you open people’s hearts and minds so they have a hunger for the truth expressed in the verses listed above. Amen.
