Scripture – “Have mercy on me, O God, according to your unfailing love; according to your great compassion blot out my transgressions. Wash away all my iniquity and cleanse me from my sin.”

‭‭Psalms‬ ‭51‬:‭1‬-‭2‬ ‭NIV‬‬

Observation – David sinned by committing adultery. He confessed his sin and knew that his only hope of forgiveness was based on God’s great mercy, compassion and love. David understood that God is the one that washes away our iniquity and cleanses us from our sins.

Application – When you sin are you relying on your subsequent good deeds to win God’s favor or are you relying on his mercy, compassion and love to cleanse your sins. God wants us to live a holy righteous life in response to what he has done for us through Christ’s death on the cross not in order to gain forgiveness.

Prayer – Lord, thank you for your love and your pursuit of us when we sin against you.
