Scripture – “Blessed is the one who always trembles before God, but whoever hardens their heart falls into trouble.”
Proverbs 28:14 NIV
Observation – The person that constantly lives in a way that demonstrates that they believe God is powerful, present and good will be blessed. The person that hardens their heart towards God will fall into trouble. What does it mean to harden your heart? A person that chooses what commands to obey and which commands to ignore has begun to harden their heart towards God. If you are withholding forgiveness, gossiping, living in fear or constant worry, turning your back on the poor, viewing your resources as yours versus God you have begun to harden your heart.
Application – This hardening happens to all of us at one time or another due to our propensity towards selfishness. When we begin to sense that are hearts are becoming hard we need to confess our sins and ask the Holy Spirit to dominate our thoughts so that we can view this world from God’s perspective and not our own. When we do this we’ll experience a tenderness towards the lost and we will live in gratitude for all God has done for us.
Prayer – Lord, I pray for all of my brothers and sisters whose hearts aren’t right with you. I pray you bring them near to you so they can experience life to the full. Amen.
