Scripture – “For we did not follow cleverly devised stories when we told you about the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ in power, but we were eyewitnesses of his majesty.”

‭‭2 Peter‬ ‭1‬:‭16‬ ‭NIV‬‬

Observation – Peter is making sure that everyone who reads this letter understands that the disciples didn’t make up stories about Jesus or embellish the actual events. He is making it very clear that he was there, he saw Jesus turn water into wine, restore sight to the blind, make the deaf hear and the lame walk. He saw with his own eyes Lazarus come back from the dead, people possessed by demons made whole and he spent time with Jesus eating and drinking after Jesus rose from the dead. Peter had lots of opportunities, when he was being beaten, thrown in jail and ultimately executed to be set free by telling his accusers that the stories were made up but he knew what he saw and died for his faith in Jesus.

Application – When things get tough as they always do, when God asked something difficult of you, when times are dark and you want more proof will you believe its a story or will you believe its the truth.

Prayer – Lord, when a person who loves you and knows that you love them reads this passage it is so encouraging. I pray that they take this undeniable fact and live their life with joy and hope in your strength and your care. Amen.
