Scripture -“See, I set before you today life and prosperity, death and destruction. For I command you today to love the Lord your God, to walk in obedience to him, and to keep his commands, decrees and laws; then you will live and increase, and the Lord your God will bless you in the land you are entering to possess.”
Deuteronomy 30:15-16 NIV
Observation – God is telling the Israelites that he is giving them two options; life and prosperity or death and destruction. If they love God and obey his commands they will be blessed, if they reject God and live in rebellion and disobedience they will bring curses upon themselves.
Application – People that don’t know Jesus personally may read these verses and think they are unfair. I can appreciate this because I became a Christian when I was 28, now I am 56. I thought that as long as I lived a good life God would be pleased with me. When God opened my eyes so that I could understand that I lived a selfish life that was focused on me and that my motives and actions didn’t serve God or others I knew I needed God’s forgiveness and a new beginning to my life. This can only be found in Jesus and his forgiveness.
Prayer – Lord, some people may say this narrow path to you is unfair, I praise you that there is a way and that it brings life and prosperity, not death and destruction.
