Scripture – “Whoever shuts their ears to the cry of the poor will also cry out and not be answered. There is no wisdom, no insight, no plan that can succeed against the Lord.”
Proverbs 21:13, 30 NIV
Observation – Both of these verses from Proverbs 21 speak to the importance of obeying God. God commands us to give to the poor, if we don’t help them, God won’t hear our prayer in our time of need. If we devise a plan that would be the envy or any man but it doesn’t align with God’s will we will find ourselves battling God.
Application – If you are not giving to the poor you need to start. God has a heart for the poor and so did all of his servants. There are many reasons not to help the poor; “they will waste it on non-essentials, if we help them now they will never learn to work”. If you feel this way give money to a professional organization that helps the poor. They know how to deal with addiction, people with mental illness and homelessness. If you have a family member that is struggling it is your obligation, as a believer, to help them. If you are planning to do something without talking to God first don’t do it. Stop and pray first. There is a great book called A Sacred Pace that will help you make Godly decisions so that you don’t live with regret and find yourself in bad situation that could have been avoided.
Prayer – Lord forgive us for shutting our ears to the cry of the poor and for not coming to you before we make decisions. Amen.
