Scripture “Get wisdom, get understanding; do not forget my words or turn away from them. Do not forsake wisdom, and she will protect you; love her, and she will watch over you. The beginning of wisdom is this: Get wisdom. Though it cost all you have, get understanding.”
Proverbs 4:5-7 NIV
Observation – Jesus is telling us to get wisdom and understanding, though it cost all you have Jesus implores us to not forsake it but to GET WISDOM.
Application – What does it mean to get wisdom and understanding? God is telling us that listening to his commands and putting them into practice is wise. Spending time thinking and praying about the consequences of ignoring God’s commands and the rewards that come to those who apply them is understanding. We get to choose to engage in wickedness or righteousness. We get to choose to trust that God rewards the home of the righteous and curses the house of the wicked. Knowledge is knowing what is right and what is wrong. Understanding is comprehending why righteousness is good and wickedness is evil and wisdom is making the right choice, at the right time in a way that brings joy to God.
Prayer – Lord, I thank you that you pursue us so that we can choose to live lives that please you and bring us joy and satisfaction.
