“My son, if you accept my words and store up my commands within you, turning your ear to wisdom and applying your heart to understanding— indeed, if you call out for insight and cry aloud for understanding, and if you look for it as for silver and search for it as for hidden treasure, then you will understand the fear of the Lord and find the knowledge of God. For the Lord gives wisdom; from his mouth come knowledge and understanding. He holds success in store for the upright, he is a shield to those whose walk is blameless, for he guards the course of the just and protects the way of his faithful ones.”

‭‭Proverbs‬ ‭2‬:‭1‬-‭8‬ ‭NIV‬‬ June 2, 2025

Observation – There are three “if’s” in this passage indicating that God’s promises listed in these verses are contingent upon our behavior and actions we need to take. God says if we accept his words, store up his commands, turn our ear to wisdom, apply our heart to understanding, if we call out for insight, cry aloud for understanding, if we look for it as for silver and search for it as for hidden treasure we will understand the fear of the Lord and find the knowledge of God.

Application – Our behavior is directly tied to the quality and confidence of our expectations. If we truly believe that the Lord gives wisdom and from his mouth come knowledge and understanding, that he holds success in store for the upright, that he is a shield to those whose walk is blameless, that he guards the course of the just and protects the way of his faithful ones, then we will pursue him in the way described above.

Prayer – Lord I pray for believers that have received your wisdom and protection, I pray they would remember your goodness and favor and continue to pursue you with humility and confidence and I pray for those who feel that they haven’t experienced this, I pray they would seek you will all of their hearts and will come to know that you are good and that you keep your promises. Amen.
