Scripture – “That night all the members of the community raised their voices and wept aloud. All the Israelites grumbled against Moses and Aaron, and the whole assembly said to them, “If only we had died in Egypt! Or in this wilderness! Why is the Lord bringing us to this land only to let us fall by the sword? Our wives and children will be taken as plunder. Wouldn’t it be better for us to go back to Egypt?” And they said to each other, “We should choose a leader and go back to Egypt.””

‭‭Numbers‬ ‭14‬:‭1‬-‭4‬ ‭NIV‬‬

Observation – God wanted to give the promised land to the Israelites as a gift, demonstrating his love for them. Ten of the twelve men who explored the land for 40 days gave a bad report to the Israelite community instilling fear and doubt. In their fear they convinced themselves that they were going to die and their wives and kids would become slaves. They truly believed that God didn’t care for them, even after seeing him deliver them from Egypt, provide manna everyday and guide them by a pillar of cloud by day and fire by night, and they thought it would be better to go back and become slaves in Egypt.

Application – How many gifts have you received from Jesus? How many times has he demonstrated his faithfulness to you? What are you afraid of? In what areas of your life do you believe God is sending you to perish? If this is how you think take some time over this upcoming Memorial Day weekend and write down the long list of God’s faithfulness. Remembering and thanking him for what he has already done will give you hope and faith that he will continue to lead you down a good path where you get to witness more of his miracles in your life.

Prayer – Lord, you are good and your love endures forever. I pray that I would never doubt your love, protection and provision. Amen.
