Scripture – “Then Caleb silenced the people before Moses and said, “We should go up and take possession of the land, for we can certainly do it.” But the men who had gone up with him said, “We can’t attack those people; they are stronger than we are.” And they spread among the Israelites a bad report about the land they had explored. They said, “The land we explored devours those living in it. All the people we saw there are of great size. We saw the Nephilim there (the descendants of Anak come from the Nephilim). We seemed like grasshoppers in our own eyes, and we looked the same to them.””

‭‭Numbers‬ ‭13‬:‭30‬-‭33‬ ‭NIV‬‬

Observation – After exploring the land, everyone that went agreed that it was a good land but they were afraid of the people that lived there. Caleb stood up and said that they should go up and take possession of the land, for “we can certainly do it”. The men who went with him spread fear among the Israelites.

Application – God gave us fear for a reason, to protect us. It is good to have a healthy fear but when God calls you to do something you have to focus your attention on his power and his care for you. There was danger in the land. The Israelites were going to war, that is dangerous but God called them to do it and he said he would be with them. What is God calling you to do today? Will you give way to fear or trust him? Remember what he has done for you in the past and move forward with confidence.

Prayer – Lord, I pray I remember this account when fear tries to crowd out faith. Amen.
