Scripture – ““You will all fall away,” Jesus told them, “for it is written: “ ‘I will strike the shepherd, and the sheep will be scattered.’ But after I have risen, I will go ahead of you into Galilee.” “Truly I tell you,” Jesus answered, “today—yes, tonight—before the rooster crows twice you yourself will disown me three times.” But Peter insisted emphatically, “Even if I have to die with you, I will never disown you.” And all the others said the same. Then everyone deserted him and fled.”

‭‭Mark‬ ‭14‬:‭27‬-‭28‬, ‭30‬-‭31‬, ‭50‬ ‭NIV‬‬

Observation – Jesus told his disciples they would all flee when he was taken away by the Roman guards. Peter said he would die before he disowned him AND ALL THE OTHERS SAID THE SAME. Later on in the chapter we find out that everyone deserted him and fled.

Application – The focus is normally on Peter in this passage because he boasted that he would never disown Jesus but all of the disciples agreed with Peter and said that they would never disown Jesus. How do you disown Jesus in your day to day life? Ask him for strength to be proud of knowing him instead of being a secret agent Christian that never blows their cover.

Prayer – Lord, I met an 87 year old man yesterday that has cancer. He may live another 10 years or he may die soon. We are all going to be in this man’s position sooner than we think. Strengthen me to live a life that honors you no matter what the temporary earthly costs are. Amen.
