Scripture – “I will walk about in freedom, for I have sought out your precepts.”
Psalms 119:45 NIV
Observation – The Bible talks a lot about freedom. The writer says that he sought out God’s precepts and the result is that he can now walk about in freedom. What is he free from? Because he knows what is important to God and who God is he is free from wondering why he is on earth and the purpose of his existence. Because he knows right from wrong he is free to choose good versus evil. The reward he receives from God in searching for the truth is freedom from sin and the shame and regret of living a life dominated by satisfying the temporary pleasures of the flesh.
Application – Romans Chapter 6 states that everyone on earth is slave, we are either slaves to sin or slaves to righteousness. We can either serve our flesh or Jesus. The flesh doesn’t just represent sexual immortality and debauchery, it is also greed, laziness, indifference to others, anything that places a persons selfish needs ahead of what is truly good. The application of this verse is the application of this verse, seek God’s precepts and the reward from him is freedom.
Prayer – Lord, everyone is going to serve somebody. We can either be an instrument of wickedness and be enslaved to sin or we can be an instrument of righteousness and serve you. I pray that you go after everyone on earth and bring them to yourself. Amen.
