Scripture – “I would like to learn just one thing from you: Did you receive the Spirit by the works of the law, or by believing what you heard?”

‭‭Galatians‬ ‭3‬:‭2‬ ‭NIV‬‬

Observation – Paul is asking the people of Galatia if they received the Holy Spirit by obeying the law or believing what they heard. The answer is they received the Holy Spirit through faith in Jesus not by obeying the law.

Application – As followers of Jesus we often times find ourselves making lists of the things we do and, depending on how and what we are doing, come to the conclusion that God is really happy with us or is frowning and shaking his head in disappointment. We need to remember that we are saved by grace through faith and not by works. God loves us because he made us and has called us into his family by us believing what we heard about Jesus death and resurrection, not because we are living as righteously has we can (and, by the way still falling way short).

Prayer – God thank you for the gift of faith to understand and believe that Jesus died to pay for our sins so we can be saved through faith. Amen.
