Scripture – “But even if we or an angel from heaven should preach a gospel other than the one we preached to you, let them be under God’s curse! As we have already said, so now I say again: If anybody is preaching to you a gospel other than what you accepted, let them be under God’s curse! Am I now trying to win the approval of human beings, or of God? Or am I trying to please people? If I were still trying to please people, I would not be a servant of Christ.”
Galatians 1:8-10 NIV
Observation – Paul is emphasizing that there is only one gospel, only one way for a person to go to be in a right relationship with God, and that is through grace alone, through faith alone in Jesus. Paul tells them that even if an angel appears to them with another gospel don’t believe it. If someone preaches another gospel Paul says they should be cursed by God because they are deceiving people and putting their eternal security at risk. Paul goes on to say that his job isn’t to please people but God.
Application – The Bible clearly teaches that Jesus is the only way to heaven and that all other religions are false religions. Don’t compromise your standing with God by trying to make a person feel good about their false beliefs. Tell them the truth and invite them to look into it with you.
Prayer – Jesus, I pray for my brothers and sisters and especially leaders of the Church that they would unashamedly preach the gospel so that people can be saved.
