Scripture – “On the first day of the week, very early in the morning, the women took the spices they had prepared and went to the tomb. They found the stone rolled away from the tomb, but when they entered, they did not find the body of the Lord Jesus. While they were wondering about this, suddenly two men in clothes that gleamed like lightning stood beside them. In their fright the women bowed down with their faces to the ground, but the men said to them, “Why do you look for the living among the dead? He is not here; he has risen! Remember how he told you, while he was still with you in Galilee: ‘The Son of Man must be delivered over to the hands of sinners, be crucified and on the third day be raised again.’ ” Then they remembered his words.”
Luke 24:1-8 NIV
Observation – Jesus followers went to the tomb with spices for his body. When they got there they found the stone rolled away from the entrance and two angels asked them why they were looking for the living among the dead. The angels told them that Jesus had risen from the dead and reminded them that Jesus prophesied that he would be crucified and on the third day be raised again.
Application – This is the defining event for Christianity. If it isn’t true then Christianity is a false religion and all of its followers are fools and liars that spend their money and time deceiving people and giving them false hope about forgiveness of sins and eternal life that will never happen. If it is true, that God became a human being, lived on earth for approximately 33 years, lived a perfect life and chose to die for the sins of humanity so that we could be forgiven and live with the certainty that when we die it isn’t the end but only the beginning of living for eternity with our Lord and our God, well then if this is true it demands everything from us. If you are reading this and don’t believe please take some time and thoroughly investigate the claims of Jesus. If you do believe, give Jesus everything, if he can rise from the dead he can give your life purpose, meaning and peace.
Prayer – Jesus, thank you for the overwhelming evidence that you are who you say you are and that you died for our sins and rose from the dead. Amen.
