Scripture – “The appetite of laborers works for them; their hunger drives them on.”

‭‭Proverbs‬ ‭16‬:‭26‬ ‭NIV‬‬

Observation – Our desire for physical needs like food, clothing and shelter overrides our desire to sit and do nothing. As the scripture says “their hunger drives them on”. This short verse summarizes why work is good for people. When we have physical needs it moves us to action. When we engage in work good things happen. We acquire skills, we learn to work with other people, we make friends, we supply goods and services to others in need, they provide goods an services to us which allows a person to provide for their families so their sons and daughters can grow up and be healthy and educated. This hunger helps a person to become confident and strong so they be proud of themselves and their contribution to society.

Application – When the government or parents give things to their citizens or kids their hunger is satisfied and their ambition is doused, they don’t learn a skill, they don’t meet people or learn to work with them and they become depressed and useless.

Prayer – Dear Jesus, thank you for hunger and the ability to work. Amen.
