Scripture – “But their minds were made dull, for to this day the same veil remains when the old covenant is read. It has not been removed, because only in Christ is it taken away. Even to this day when Moses is read, a veil covers their hearts. But whenever anyone turns to the Lord, the veil is taken away. Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom. And we all, who with unveiled faces contemplate the Lord’s glory, are being transformed into his image with ever-increasing glory, which comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit.”
2 Corinthians 3:14-18 NIV
Observation – People can read the Bible and not get anything out of it because a veil covers their heart until Jesus takes it away. Once a person recognizes their need for Jesus and his forgiveness the veil is taken away and as it is said, “they see the light”. It is a miraculous event in a person’s life when they understand the depth of their sin and God’s deep love for them shown through Jesus’ life, death and resurrection. Once this happens that person receives the Spirit of the Lord and that is where there is freedom. Freedom from guilt, freedom from the fear of death and freedom from the fear of the unknown.
Application – Turn to the Lord and repent from your sins. We have all sinned against others and against God. Ask Jesus to forgive you and turn from your sins, then the veil will be lifted and you will be able see.
Prayer – Jesus, I thank you that you lifted the veil from my eyes in 1996. I pray for people out there who don’t know you that they would turn to you and ask for your help. Amen.
