Scripture – “If anyone turns a deaf ear to my instruction, even their prayers are detestable.”
Proverbs 28:9 NIV
Observation – God is saying that if we ignore what he tells us to do and then we come and pray to him our prayers are detestable to him.
Application – Does this mean that if we aren’t generous and don’t share the Gospel that are prayers are detestable to God. What if we gossip, or don’t work with all of our hearts or harbor bitterness towards others. I don’t think this is what God is communicating. He knows we are going to fall short and forgives us when we repent. This verse is directed toward people who don’t care what God has to say and deliberately ignore his commands.
Prayer – Dear Lord, give us hearts to obey your commands. Amen.
