Scripture – “The words “it was credited to him” were written not for him alone, but also for us, to whom God will credit righteousness—for us who believe in him who raised Jesus our Lord from the dead. He was delivered over to death for our sins and was raised to life for our justification.”

‭‭Romans‬ ‭4‬:‭23‬-‭25‬ ‭NIV‬‬

Observation – In this verse Paul is explaining that Abraham’s righteousness was credited to him, in other words, he didn’t earn his salvation and standing before God, it was a gift from God given through faith. Paul goes on to say that God will credit righteousness to those who believe in him who raised Jesus our Lord from the dead, he was delivered over to death for our sins and was raised to life for our justification. I think that people who aren’t familiar with the Bible believe that it talks a little bit about Jesus coming back from the dead and a lot about what you can’t do and what you should do. As I read the God’s word it is all about Jesus death and resurrection and the necessity for belief in order to be saved.

Application – Belief in Jesus death and resurrection are paramount in trusting God and the Bible. If Jesus didn’t die and come back to life we are still in our sins, and as Paul states in 1 Corinthians 15, “to be pitied more than all men”.

Prayer – Dear Jesus, help to emphasize this as I talk to people who don’t know you yet. Amen.
