Scripture – “At that time Jesus said, “I praise you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because you have hidden these things from the wise and learned, and revealed them to little children. Yes, Father, for this is what you were pleased to do.”
Matthew 11:25-26 NIV
O – Jesus is praising his Father because his Father revealed the secrets of the kingdom of God to little children but he hid this from the wise and learned. Tony Evans says that Jesus is not disparaging eduction in this verse but it is directed at people who think they have superior knowledge and can figure out how to live without God. Jesus reveals his Father to those who are humble and know they don’t have all the answers and to those who will pray and ask for direction, not to those who are wise in their owns eyes.
A – Develop an accurate view of who you are versus who God is, you are a human being that didn’t decide to be born, couldn’t take care of yourself for over a decade, had to be cared for by parents, teachers and coaches…you rely on hundreds or even thousands of other people to deliver food to stores so you can live, you rely on hundreds or even thousands of people to ensure you can make a living and provide for your family….you will grow old and feeble and die. Now during this life you will have moments of great victory, and these are great, but you are here today and gone tomorrow. In light of this we should all be like little children who come to their Dad for help.
P – Lord Jesus, help me to come to you early in the morning and often during the day so that I don’t develop a “wise in my own eyes” mentality. Amen.
