Scripture – “Then he got into the boat and his disciples followed him. Suddenly a furious storm came up on the lake, so that the waves swept over the boat. But Jesus was sleeping. The disciples went and woke him, saying, “Lord, save us! We’re going to drown!” He replied, “You of little faith, why are you so afraid?” Then he got up and rebuked the winds and the waves, and it was completely calm. The men were amazed and asked, “What kind of man is this? Even the winds and the waves obey him!””  Matthew‬ ‭8‬:‭23‬-‭27‬ ‭NIV‬‬

Observation – The disciples and Jesus were in a boat and suddenly a furious storm came up so that waves higher than the boat. The disciples panicked and thought they were going to die. Jesus was asleep but woke up and asked them why they were afraid and told them they had little faith. Jesus then calmed the storm and his disciples learned that day that Jesus could not only heal people of diseases but could control the weather.

Application – We are just like the disciples. We have seen Jesus work in our lives countless times but when a bad storm comes up we feel as if this is the time where Jesus is powerless or we feel that this is the time he is going let us drown. We learned earlier in Chapter 8 that Jesus healed a man without being next to him, he ordered the illness to leave the man and it did. Jesus promised us that he would not leave us or forsake us, this is why we are commanded to walk by faith not by sight. If we focus our attention on the storm we are going to stumble and fall apart. If we focus our attention on Jesus he will be our confidence and will keep our foot from being snared.

Prayer – Jesus, give me faith to see you clearly when the storms of this life come and to praise you every minute when you steer me clear of bad weather. Amen.
