Scripture – ““Do not give dogs what is sacred; do not throw your pearls to pigs. If you do, they may trample them under their feet, and turn and tear you to pieces.”
Matthew 7:6 NIV
Observation – Jesus is telling us that continuing to try and convince someone that the Bible is true when they are hostile towards God and followers of Christ is unwise because they have no desire to listen or humble themselves. They only want to be wise in their own eyes and continue to worship their intellect. I just experienced this with someone and I wish I would have applied this verse.
Application – To determine if you are giving dogs what is sacred and throwing pearls to pigs you have to learn two things; 1) Is the person insisting that nothing created everything. If a person believes the scientific impossibility that nothing created everything they are a fool; 2) If after sharing the 10 commandments and asking them if they would be innocent or guilty on judgement day they continue to insist they are “good” people. If they believe nothing created everything and they are good people and you begin to share truths from scripture you are most likely giving dogs what is sacred and throwing your pearls to pigs. Don’t give up on them, pray for them and ask God to open their heart.
P – Jesus, give me discernment to know what to ask and how to ask it when speaking with a person who doesn’t know you yet. Amen.
