Scripture – “Now in the church at Antioch there were prophets and teachers: Barnabas, Simeon called Niger, Lucius of Cyrene, Manaen (who had been brought up with Herod the tetrarch) and Saul. While they were worshiping the Lord and fasting, the Holy Spirit said, “Set apart for me Barnabas and Saul for the work to which I have called them.” So after they had fasted and prayed, they placed their hands on them and sent them off.”
Acts 13:1-3 NIV
Observation – Believers gathered and while they were worshiping and fasting the Holy Spirit spoke to them and gave them specific instructions. After they had fasted and prayed they immediately obeyed what the Holy Spirit told them to do.
Application – If you want to hear from God fast and pray and immediately obey. Tony Evans says that fasting is so impactful because it shows God that you are serious; you are giving up an immediate physical need for a greater spiritual need.
Pray – Lord Jesus, I have seen you work and answer prayers when I fast. It seems like a good thing to do now. Amen.
