Scripture – “Then God said to Abraham, “As for you, you must keep my covenant, you and your descendants after you for the generations to come. This is my covenant with you and your descendants after you, the covenant you are to keep: Every male among you shall be circumcised. You are to undergo circumcision, and it will be the sign of the covenant between me and you. For the generations to come every male among you who is eight days old must be circumcised, including those born in your household or bought with money from a foreigner—those who are not your offspring. On that very day Abraham took his son Ishmael and all those born in his household or bought with his money, every male in his household, and circumcised them, as God told him.”
Genesis 17:9-12, 23 NIV
Observation – God told Abraham that he was establishing a covenant with Abraham and the sign of the covenant was circumcision. Abraham trusted God and obeyed him that very day, he and his entire household was circumcised that day.
Application – We know from Genesis 14 when Abraham rescued Lot that he had 318 trained men for battle that were born in his household so we know that hundreds of men agreed to be circumcised that day along with Abraham. Abraham must have been loved and revered by all of these men in order for them to agree to this and take action on the same day. Live in such a way that the people around you will follow when it is time to follow.
Prayer – Jesus, help me to make decisions that put you and others first so they know I’m looking out for their best interests. If this happens I will have good men surrounding me when action is required. Amen.
