Scripture – “Now Lot, who was moving about with Abram, also had flocks and herds and tents. But the land could not support them while they stayed together, for their possessions were so great that they were not able to stay together. And quarreling arose between Abram’s herders and Lot’s. The Canaanites and Perizzites were also living in the land at that time. So Abram said to Lot, “Let’s not have any quarreling between you and me, or between your herders and mine, for we are close relatives. Is not the whole land before you? Let’s part company. If you go to the left, I’ll go to the right; if you go to the right, I’ll go to the left.””
Genesis 13:5-9 NIV
Observation – Abram and Lot had become successful and had so many flocks and herds the land could not support both of them. As a result, their employees began to argue. Abram approached Lot and suggested they part company and told Lot he could choose what land he wanted and Abram would go in the opposite direction.
Application – When it comes time to “choose” do you put yourself first of do you look out for the interest of the other person. Are you trusting in your own cleverness or are you trusting God to take care of you. God wants us to use our minds and be prudent in our negotiations and how we use his resources but the success of every transaction is not solely weighed on economics.
Prayer – Dear Jesus, some transactions are weighed solely on economics but not every one. Give the wisdom to know the difference. Amen.
