Scripture – “Whoever derides their neighbor has no sense, but the one who has understanding holds their tongue.”
Proverbs 11:12 NIV
Observation – God is instructing us not to talking poorly about people, if we do he considers us foolish. If we keep our mouths closed he considers us wise.
Application – When you want to talk about someone in a negative way you should first examine your heart to determine why you are doing it. You may be trying to let someone else know that you have the tea or your goal could be to hurt the other person by sharing an embarrassing detail. God only gives us three options; talk to the person directly, talk to God about it or overlook it.
Prayer – Dear Jesus, you are pleased when I hold my tongue and consider me a fool when I gossip. Give me a heart to please you even when I want to bash someone. Amen.
